Sony announced today the launch of the Xperia Tablet S, a thin and light device packed with original applications and Sony exclusive features.

Measuring 9.2mm slim, the tablet has a slim and light alumimum body.

The Xperia Tablet S is powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor for smooth operatin and features Sony’s Quick Touch and Quick View technologies for enhanced performance.

It comes with a splash proof design and an IPX4 splashproof rating to withstand splashing water at all angles.

It features  a 9.4-inch HD touchscreen display with OptiContrast panel with low-friction coating, and a 8 Megapixel auto focus camera and a front-facing 1 Megapixel camera for video chat.

The new Xperia tablet keeps the IR sensor and doubles as a univeral remote control, allowing users to turn on/off and control their home media devices including HDTV, Blu-ray player and audio system.

Sony also adds its original technologies, including S-Master Digital Amplifier, S-Force Front Surround, xLOUD and Clear Phase, to deliver rich, dynamic sound and 3D surround sound.

The Xperia Android tablet supports Bluetooth, WiFi as well as DLNA and HDMI output.

It comes pre-loaded with Walkman music app and Sony Entertainment Network Services for movie and music streaming.

Price & Availability

The Xperia Tablet S is available in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions and will be sold at Sony Stores, including online, and other authorized dealers nationwide for about $400, $500 and $600 respectively starting September 7 (preorders start today).
